What do I need in my apartment before I can look after a dog here?

Certain things must be considered to ensure a dog is safe in your apartment:

  • Certain foods can be unhealthy or poisonous for dogs. They must be kept inaccessible to dogs: Chocolate, coffee, tea, alcohol, garlic, onions, avocados, potatoes, tomatoes, fruit kernels, raw pulses, grapes, uncooked pork.
  • Some plants can be poisonous for dogs and should be kept out of their reach or in the garden – such as philodendron, Christmas star, boxwood, daffodils, lily of the valley and more.
  • Bare wires should be avoided and child safety covers are recommended for mains sockets.
  • No open detergents, cleaning agents, chemicals or medication.
  • Do not leave small items lying around, like small toys, parts of toys and building blocks.
  • To exclude the risk of a dog escaping, if your garden is not fully and reliably fenced, do not leave your dog alone.

You should strongly suggest the dog owner comes to your home the first time in order to search for and exclude all sources of danger together.
